I’ve been working on the posts/bases/braces: plumbing (vertically) the posts; leveling each top brace from side to side; assembling, aligning, and leveling the undercarriage from end to end. This required shimming the underside of both posts base and marking a matching level line all the way around them. Then I removed the stretcher and used a one-man log saw to cut the base. I finished up with a belt sander, and it was time to go across town and get the plank.

The Douglas fir plank has finally made it to the shop, with the help of two good friends, Steve Hulse and “Iron Jack” (Steve’s International pickup truck.)
I’ll saw straight and parallel lines on each edge, and end up with a 25 inch wide center plank for the table top. I want a finished width of at least 32 inches, so I’ll add a 4 inch by 10 foot piece of edging on each side. The plank’s grain is vertical, which will help to keep it flat. I do want to count the growth rings.
